Message from the CEO: Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Focused Practice Designation Exam Application

The ABS apologizes for the delay and subsequent issues in making the MBS FPD application available to diplomates for the 2024 exam.

Doctors,

The application for the Focused Practice Designation in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery is now available in the Apply & Register section of your ABS portal. We know that this has been a long time coming, and that many of you have been frustrated by delays and problems with access to the application, which may also cause downstream delays with finding convenient seats at Pearson centers. We apologize for this, which is entirely on the ABS. We are undergoing a redesign of our website and application processes which will ultimately make things easier for diplomates in all our interactions, but we fumbled at a critical moment.

There is still time to apply and take the exam this year, and we hope that those of you who are eligible will do so. In partnership with the ASMBS, we look forward to welcoming you as an ABS MBS recognized surgeon.

Sincerely,

Jo Buyske, M.D.
President & CEO, American Board of Surgery
