ABS Statement of Support for the AAPI Community

The ABS condemns the recent abhorrent violence against the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, and rejects anti-Asian hate and misogyny in all forms.

The American Board of Surgery condemns the recent abhorrent violence against the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, and rejects anti-Asian hate and misogyny in all forms. The March 16 murder of eight people in Atlanta, six of whom were Asian American women, brings a harsh light to the intersectional oppression that so many people face, and that diminishes all of us.

We take this opportunity to thank the many surgeons of AAPI descent who work tirelessly on behalf of the public. The practice of medicine would not be what it is today without your knowledge and contributions. We particularly acknowledge our own directors, councilors, examiners, writers, and diplomates. Thank you for all that you do for the house of surgery.
