We are pleased to announce that a Focused Practice Designation in Adult Complex Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery has been approved by the ABMS. Focused Practice Designation (FPD) is a recognition allowed by ABMS member boards to highlight surgeons who have focused their practice through either non-ACGME accredited training pathways or through mentorship and practice.
The American Board of Surgery (ABS) and the American Board of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery (ABOHNS) are in the process of developing the knowledge assessment for this designation. Diplomates of the American Board of Surgery, who focus on thyroid and parathyroid surgery, are invited to self-nominate for a seat on the newly formed Examination Committee. This committee will be dedicated to meeting the expectations below:
- Development of the exam blueprint
- Create exam content (write questions)
- Serve as a sounding board for the Steering Committee
We anticipate this role will require a 3-year commitment. If you are interested in becoming a member of this Examination Committee please complete the brief survey here by 8 am EDT on Monday, July 10. Please have an abbreviated CV available to upload when taking the survey.
- Examination Committee Survey (all candidates must fill this out, whether self-nominated or nominated by an organization or another individual)
If you are selected for a position on the Examination Committee, you will be required to attend our first meeting, in person, on Thursday, October 12 and Friday, October 13 in Philadelphia, PA. The ABOHNS and ABS will reimburse travel expenses for their respective diplomates to attend this meeting.
If you have any questions, please contact our communications department.
