Volunteer to make a difference in the world of surgery

Are you interested in volunteering with the American Board of Surgery? The ABS has over 700 diplomate volunteers across all surgical specialties who write questions for exams, serve as examiners for the Certifying Examinations, provide essential user testing and feedback on ABS products such as the public website and diplomate portal, and so much more. The ABS is always accepting applications for additional volunteers, so if you are interested, please complete the form below.

Consider volunteering in multiple areas

The ABS’s volunteer needs change frequently. As such, please note that interest in volunteering with the ABS may not always result in placement in a volunteer group. When expressing interest in volunteering with the ABS, individuals are asked to consider volunteering for more than one opportunity, as we are not always able to immediately bring on volunteers in all areas.

The ABS often recruits for opportunities such as editing and writing for our written or oral exams, which help volunteers gain an understanding of the mechanics of the programs and processes that are integral to the ABS.

Often, the ABS specialty boards recruit new examiners directly from their examination consultant (writing) committees.
