The American Board of Surgery (ABS) announced today that the application deadline for the 2024 Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Focused Practice Designation (MBS FPD) Examination has been extended to April 1, 2024.

In addition, in an effort to make examination scheduling more convenient for diplomates, the ABS has reserved an additional week for this exam’s administration. Diplomates will now be able to schedule and complete this exam at Pearson VUE testing centers between March 26 – April 6, 2024.

For additional details about this exam, including application information and exam fees, please see Focused Practice Designations.

Please note: Exam center seats fill on a first come, first served basis, and the ABS has no control over capacity at a given center. Testing centers have limited capacity, are subject to social distancing requirements and may fill up well before the exam date, particularly in urban areas. Applicants should contact Pearson VUE to reserve space at a nearby testing center as soon as their admission letter is posted to their ABS portal. Delays in scheduling may require travel outside of the desired geographical area for the exam.
