Overview
The ABS, in partnership with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), updated program requirements for trainees completing international rotations, effective immediately.
As per the new policy, program directors will only need to obtain ACGME blanket approval of the international rotation experience in accordance with the ACGME policy. Separate ABS and ACGME approval for each individual trainee completing this approved international experience is no longer required with the exception of international rotations in the chief year.
Note: International rotations in the PGY-5 chief year must be approved by the ABS. For the ABS to consider international rotations in the chief year, the program must provide ACGME approval of chief rotation in the PGY-4 year when submitting the request to the ABS.
