2021 Reporting Extension and Important Information for Diplomates

Dec. 23, 2021 Media Contact: Alyson Maloney, 215-568-4000

The deadline for reporting on certification requirements has been extended, with a new deadline of Nov. 7, 2022. If you completed an assessment this year but did not fulfill all ongoing certification requirements, OR you have a time-limited (10-year) certificate, you were previously due to report by Dec. 31, 2021. You now have until Nov. 7, 2022, to submit any currently outstanding requirements, including CME, operative reports and/or reference letters.

We strongly encourage all diplomates to come into compliance as soon as possible. Your ongoing certification requirements are cumulative, and waiting until the end of the extension risks significant challenges to submitting your information by the extended deadline. For guidance on how to update your ongoing certification requirements, please see this document.

For detailed personalized information about your reporting status and requirements, login to your ABS portal and on your home page, click the drop down for "View Status."

If you are a time-limited diplomate who was originally due to report by Dec. 31, 2021, this will still temporarily be the date currently listed under "View Status." This date will change to Nov. 7, 2022, after the New Year when the ABS office reopens on Jan. 3, 2022.

If you are a...

Diplomate who completed a Continuous Certification Assessment in 2021 and fulfilled all certification requirements by Dec. 31,2021

There is nothing more that you are expected to do at this time. Please login to your portal in 2022 to pay your annual fee. Once your 2022 annual fee is paid, come back in 2023 to complete any requirements that are outstanding at that time to be able to register for the 2023 assessment.

Diplomate who completed a Continuous Certification Assessment in 2021 but DID NOT fulfill all other certification requirements by Dec. 31, 2021

You have until Nov. 7, 2022, to fulfill any outstanding requirements. We strongly encourage you to come into compliance as soon as possible. Your ongoing certification requirements are cumulative, such that waiting until the end of the extension may result in a challenge to submit your information by the extended deadline.

For guidance on how to update your ongoing certification requirements, please see this document.

If you do not complete any outstanding requirements by Nov. 7, 2022, you will lose your certification and your ABS status will be listed as "Not Certified" in the ABS certification verification system.

Diplomate who was due for a 2021 assessment but did not complete it

You must confirm that you wish to remain certified by remitting payment for your annual fee by Dec. 31, 2021. If you do not pay your outstanding balance by Dec. 31, 2021, you will not automatically receive a grace year in 2023 and you will lose your certification and be listed as “Not Certified” in the ABS certification verification system until that balance has been paid.

Diplomate who is enrolled in Continuous Certification but was NOT due for a 2021 assessment

Please login to your ABS portal and remit payment for your 2021 annual fee in order to avoid a late fee. Once your 2021 annual fee is paid, come back in 2022 to complete any requirements that are outstanding. All requirements must be fulfilled prior to registering for the 2022 assessment when that becomes available in August.

Diplomate who is NOT enrolled in Continuous Certification and is due to report on ongoing certification requirements

You must report on your ongoing certification requirements by Nov. 7, 2022, to remain in good standing and be listed as “Meeting CC Requirements” in the ABS certification verification system. We strongly encourage you to come into compliance as soon as possible. Your ongoing certification requirements are cumulative, such that waiting until the end of the extension may result in a challenge to submit your information by the extended deadline.

For guidance on how to update your ongoing certification requirements, please see this document.

As a reminder, you are not required to complete your first Continuous Certification Assessment until the year in which your current certificate(s) expires.

Please note: The ABS office will be closed from Dec. 24, 2021 – Jan. 3, 2022, and staff will be unavailable to offer assistance with updating diplomate portals. Any inquiries received during this time will be answered once the office reopens.
